Welcome to the SongForm Blog

I recently finished SongForm, an app for iPhone and iPad that will soon be available on the App Store. And now I’m opening this website: a home where I can tell the story behind the project, share ideas, and explore how technology can help us make music without losing it along the way.

I’ve been a programmer and amateur musician for many years. SongForm started as a personal project, a tool built to solve very specific needs of my own when playing guitar and organizing songs. I didn’t expect much more than that.

But after using it for a while, polishing details, improving flows, and seeing how it fit into my day-to-day, I started thinking it might be useful for other people too. So I’ve decided to give it a push and see how far it can go.

What SongForm is (and what it wants to become)

Today, SongForm is an app for saving, organizing, and practicing songs on iOS. It’s also a format, SFF, a natural way to define a song’s sections, lyrics, and chords, aligned to a backing track. I’m passionate about the idea, I know it solves a real problem in a good way, and I want to let it grow over time. So far, it has given me:

• A better way to organize musical ideas and never lose them
• Opportunities to practice even when I only have five free minutes
• Tools where my classic repertoire, my compositions, and my learning live together naturally
• A flexible system for saving songs exactly the way you play them

I don’t want to be just another app on your phone. I want to be useful.

Why I decided to build this

I want to keep playing. I wanted to practice even when I only had a few minutes to spare. And I wanted to quickly pull up songs and ideas without wasting time digging through different tools, whether they were covers or my own compositions.

So instead of keeping on adapting myself to apps that never quite fit me, paying subscriptions, and having to bend what I play to how someone else decided it should be, or worse, how an AI dictates it, I decided to build my own solution.

This blog is the space where I want to go further: to explain, share, and collaborate with anyone who’s curious, wants to follow along, or has ideas to contribute to the project.

I’ll talk about SongForm news, of course, but also about music, creativity, musical tools, and technology. I’ll explore DAWless workflows, the relationship between AI and human creativity, digital minimalism, guitar, songwriting, music practice, and everything that surrounds the act of creating and enjoying music today.

I also want to reflect on broader things: how we remember the songs we write, how to listen to music more consciously, or what keeps us playing even when we have far less time than we used to.

At its heart, that’s what this space is about: finding simpler, more human, more practical ways to keep making music without getting trapped in unnecessary complexity.

Where this blog can grow

This is just the first step. I’m leaving the door wide open.

SongForm will keep evolving as an app, but this blog also wants to become a place to nurture the project and bring depth and transparency to the effort it takes to launch something from scratch.

No grand promises. No trying to do everything. No pretending to be anything more or less than what I am: someone trying to build and share things that are useful, interesting, and honest.

This is just the beginning.
